DEPARTMENT: Emergency JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse SHIFT: FTE 0.6 48 hours bi-weekly Shift: nights, 7p - 7a QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current license in the State of Indiana. Prefer two years’ experience in ER/Critical care nursing. BLS provider certification within 6 months. Certified in ACLS within one year from date of hire. Certified in PALS within one year of hire. Certified in TNCC within two years of hire if statuses in ED. Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation within one year of hire. Certification in TB course within one year of hire. JOB SUMMARY Provides nursing care utilizing the Nursing Process. Knowledgeable of Emergency Department policies and procedures. Assesses all patient conditions giving appropriate care quickly and efficiently. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ability to: Read for comprehension. Write legibly. Effectively communicate with patients/staff/visitors/supervisors. Hear alarms/phones. Clearly visualize monitors/fine print/patients physical characteristics. Process information appropriately (critical thinking ability). Complete skills checklist for this position. Provide nursing care for patients. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Exemplifies good customer service. Regular reliable attendance. Ability to get along with others. Demonstrates proficient use of email. Attends at least 75% of meetings. Participates in unit meetings and educational offerings in order to maintain and enhance current knowledge and skills. Provides care to patients according to policy/procedure. Assesses patients and prioritizes delivery of care. Prepares patients for physician exam/treatment. Charts on appropriate: medications, allergies, and treatments in the EPIC electronic health record. Maintains efficient patient flow. Administers medication/injections/treatments and documents in patient record. Cares for patient belongings according to policy. Discusses patient care instructions prior to discharge. Demonstrates proficiency of Order Communications computer system. Familiar with fire, tornado, bomb, disaster and Haz Mat procedures. Follows Standard Precaution guidelines. TRIAGE NURSE-ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Coordinates Emergency department personnel duties. Receives and triage patients. Keeps family and friends advised of patients' condition. Answers EMS radio. Assigns break periods and meals. Coordinates admissions and transfers. Handles patient calls as needed. Notes and initials physicians' orders. Discharges patients as needed. Notifies supervisor if additional help is needed. Ensures professionalism within the department.
